Mercury Racing unveils all-new 450R outboard with supercharged performance
At a special media event this evening at Old Hickory Lake near Nashville, Tennessee, Mercury Racing unveiled its newest, and mightiest, outboard engine. Mercury Racing designed the 450R outboard for the discriminating performance‑boating enthusiast who is looking for unmatched power and performance.
Running on readily available 89‑octane (95 RON) pump fuel, the new 450R outboard boasts 450hp at the prop shaft while weighing in at only 689 pounds (313 Kg), literally hundreds of pounds lighter than the closest competitor in its class. The result is a ratio of power to weight previously unseen in the marine industry.
Built on the foundation of Mercury Marine’s 4.6‑liter V8 powerhead, the 450R boosts performance using an exclusive Mercury Racing supercharger, allowing the engine to generate 40 percent higher torque than the powerful 400R.
No two boating consumers are exactly alike, so the 450R offers plenty of flexibility, customization and technological compatibility — including several gearcase, control‑system, tie‑bar and styling options.
The 450R is backed by a limited three‑year factory warranty with up to five years of Mercury Product Protection coverage available.
